Inquirer news

Carol Tanjutco, J.D.

Author/Educator

Passion for knowledge and learning must be shared to the next generation. My mission is to share my knowledge gained from the world's capital market. For the next-gen artists and hardworking adults, discover secrets of financial success! I donated the contents of my book ABCs of Investing as a roadmap to achieve wealth and satisfaction from one's fruits of labor.

Visual Storyteller

Art heals tired, torn spirits, and weary souls giving us reason to seek beyond our intuition. There is one world unforeseen, where we find solace and peace, where we can rewrite our stories, revisit the past, make amends and move forward to new beginnings, fill the world with brighter colors. After all, life is like a painting, white can only be a highlight in a chiaroscuro of dark shades.

Justice Advocate

When the judicial yardstick rears its ugly head, and Lady Justice is kept blinded by the evil forces of politics and power, I shall not back down 'till the last of angel's army has fallen, I shall fear no man nor  evil. After serving the second highest court of the Philippines, I went into criminal litigation, witnessed real life demons, corruption and injustices that inspired dark colors in my early paintings.

        WELCOME, POETS LAUREATE!

        Prose & Poetry on Canvas

Art is not only visual, art is rendered from the heart to the canvas, with feelings of love, passion, gratitude, sometimes grief, at times heartbreaking, but often times comforting.

Poets Laureate, come share your passion in art and poetry!

POETRY ON CANVAS: What is a Sonnet?

A sonnet is fourteen line poem in an iambic pentameter with a regular rhyme scheme, which can be indicated by a series of letters wherein the same letters refer to specific rhyming sounds. An Elizabethan or Shakespearean sonnet rhymes: abab cdcd efef gg.

An Italian or Petrarchan sonnet rhymes: abba abba cdecde

(or any variation of the last three rhymes).

Iambic pentameter is a meter in poetry. It refers to a line consisting of five iambic feet. The word "pentameter" simply means that there are five feet in the line; iambic pentameter is a line comprising five iambs. The term originally applied to the quantitative meter of Classical Greek poetry, in which an iamb consisted of a short syllable followed by a long syllable. The term was adopted to describe the equivalent meter in English accentual-syllabic verse, where an iamb refers to an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable. Iambic rhythms come relatively naturally in English. Iambic pentameter is among the most common metrical forms in English poetry: it is used in many of the major English poetic forms, including blank verse, the heroic couplet, and some of the traditional rhymed stanza forms.

So vast, so grand, so alluring!
        Enthralled by magnificent lights
the world surrounds me in a daze
        ever mystified with awe, amazed.

People pass me by, dash in rush
beating the minute clock perched on top.
Is there no tomorrow? Let’s stop.
Each moment I relish with you.

        Moving slowly, one breath apart
        staring souls, reaching deep inside.
        Thought provoking, yet no talking
the subway sax made perfect love.

Now, you surround me in tensed wrap
        Strong arms I can’t resist, don’t stop.

Didn’t I warn you I burn like coal?
Go ahead, get this passion burning
the night is young, show me how bold
your love can hold. Profess your zeal.

The log in that fireplace illuminates
the heat slowly creeping through my body
the chilling sunset of spring captivates
my heart desiring to be in custody.

        Embrace me, unyielding embrace
‘til I melt in your brawny arms.
Kiss me all over, tensed kisses
Kiss me once more, succulent kiss!

Now you got this passion churning
don’t stop ‘til sun shines at morning …

        Yet another grueling night
        vivid visions veering back
our astral selves bare their might,
        awaiting the afterlife!

        Love forbidden we both harness.
You and I, we’re all that matters,
an accord to keep each other
        tho’ earthen selves distant, farthest.

No tears can quench our shattered hearts
somewhere in time never to part.
        This burning desire we covet
fueling fire for our ashes’ pyre.

Let’s make love ‘till dawn of the new day,
‘till the sun casts the spirits away.

        Reflection                            (18" x 24" oil)

        by Carol Tanjutco 2020

        Autumn in New York City!
How much do I love thee?

        Our hearts somber in grief
        Our minds strained with fear
        Our bodies weak from struggle
but our spirits strongest as ever!

We shall miss the glorious spring
perhaps, skip the warmth of summer.
        The promise of Fall tomorrow
shall hold us through our sorrow.

        We are One New Yorkers
        Together we shall conquer
        This too, shall pass
        Stay home to last!
        — A sonnet for all you New Yorkers

JOURNEY TO THE PAST                   (36'X 36" oil on canvas)

        By Carol Tanjutco

        I,

        woman.

        Need someone?

        So naïve, you say ?

From East to West I traveled

trekked the jungles of Asia and Africa

explored the depths of sea, still can’t find the real me.

My journey shall go on, here, now, and onto the past.

Lest I sense that proverbial knight in armor,

off to Kremlin and Red Square

        but wait, kindred soul.

        Look who’s here,

        is it …

        You ?

        Life

        begins.

        The Alpha.

        Seeds forbidden sown.

        Bodies intertwined twirling

from the heart of deep blue sea two beings rose,

        transcends the omnipotence Almighty interposed.

Churning fire and ice, illuminating ocean’s floor

headless intercourse daring to challenge all!

        What lies above the surface?

        Miracle unfazed.

        Omega:

        Woman,

        Hard bodies in shimmering sweat

working their way up to level

in rhythmic motions, puffed up breath

no sense it seems to minds clever.

Sure they say sound mind, sound body

and sound spirit it may well be,

        the clanking irons sound sturdy

        hydraulic lift overawes me.

        Sitting between loaded steel cores

        the sensation creeps through hamstrings

push to the limits, challenge more.

        How exhilarating power brings!

Unleash the strong body and soul

For what you feel decides your whole.

         Silent as a grave.
        It does not exist
        as his mind resists
        what he thought was brave.

        A moment of rage,
        can’t cease or desist
        plagued passion persists
        bitterness engaged.

        No one knew but him,
        so he thought, until...
        muffled voice whispers
        echoed in his dream
        her eyes haunt him still
        doomed to die in fear!

        It’s 3:00 a.m., the hour of death.

Felons of the hour that past stalked,

        the spirits chanting in distress,

poor victims silenced, cold and choked.

Her body lay still, begging for answer.

Why does it have to be Mother?

Like I could hear her lullabye …

one more time, please, then say goodbye

Pray. Amen to God’s will and wrath

but the ax of judgment is mine to cast.

No rhyme nor reason can possibly match

the angst and agony I have amassed.

Deep inside I hear howling winds of fear.

Grip of terror prevailed, in pain she wailed.

Forsaken by heavens, she could not bear.

Deadened by roaring rains, her cries unheard.

The rest of the world sleeps unsuspecting

        woman in torment dying helplessly.

Where were we whom she loved, raised and nurtured?

Where were we when she was beaten, tortured?

Overwhelmed with grief, the Angel of Death

transgressed, let me fathom life’s mystery.

I shall never be in this tragedy.

God help me, divine justice is my plea.

        Slighted, blighted, marred, scarred, beaten

I pick my tail that has fallen

carried my cubs and walked away

tucked them safe from fears that allay.

        The healing starts. Contemplation

        of infallible plan of action.

In the silence of this holy hour

Reasons run dry. I must devour.

The stealth and stillness of the night

        slowly consumes the fire inside.

        Blasphemy made a daring stunt

        crushing my vulnerable heart.

The chance is now, one paw a time

        veering verily, vengeance is mine!

        Prayer for Mother Carol tanj

        Mother's Grave in Vain

        ©by Carol Tanjutco

The night is young, been waiting, still hoping

to hear my lover’s ring, my heart’s bleeding.

So many times I ask myself, why? How

these things had turned my dream into nightmare.

‘Twas just yesterday we’re teeming with glee,

happy hearts beaming with light, hope and joy.

Prayerfully counting the days to wed,

two souls vowed as one ‘till life after death.

Then, out of nowhere, turbulent sand storm

struck, vanished all the love and heart’s treasures.

The sands of time had ran out forever

breathless beings’ prayer in vain, lifeless.

Didn’t we ask blessings from mother’s grave?

What went wrong? Woman in love, easy prey!
