The first Mangyan Art Reach in March 2020 proved to be a huge success. Several other teachers from different villages are requesting our assitance to visit their schools to conduct similar art classes. The children felt very much appreciated and were able to express themselves in creative ways, along with the principal and the teachers. Master artist Othoniel Neri supervised the various break-out groups with Teacher Marita. We involved the Municipal Mayor to sign their certificates, the local Rotarian Engr. Ed Axalan sponsored the house paint for mural and Tamaraw Beach sponsored the children's snacks. This is our community working in unison for progress and fun learning.
This years was our second chance to visit the Mangyan VIllage, to interact with families and children, bring them chocolate candies, even for momentary joy, as we tried to understand what the community needs. After our founder's first visit in 2019, to assess the needs and met with the former principal, we were introduced to the new principal Maizel Axalan who coordinated everything we needed for this event, gave us the children's t-shirt sizes. This time, we brought masks as it was the start of the pandemic, t-shirts to wear during our art program, and they joined us in a momentous mural painting of their school building, to remind them of the happy time we shared.
